On October 5, 2026, Shopify launched Shop Pre-Verification, a new feature that identifies and authenticates Shop app users while they are browsing your store, before they ever reach the checkout page. For ecommerce brands running Shopify, this means automatic pre-filled Shop Pay, cart synchronization across devices, and built-in abandoned checkout recovery for every verified user among Shop's more than 100 million global shoppers, all with zero merchant configuration required.
Shop Pre-Verification closes the device-switching gap that causes most cart abandonment. A verified Shop user who adds items on mobile and returns to your store on desktop will find their cart intact and their Shop Pay details pre-filled. Shopify enables this automatically for all stores with Shop Pay active, and it applies to abandoned checkout recovery flows as well, triggering for verified users who leave without purchasing without requiring a new email capture.
On October 2, 2026, Shopify also launched Discount Rollouts for merchants on Basic plans and above. Rollouts is a campaign-style scheduling and A/B testing tool that lets brands coordinate discount launches with theme and checkout changes, and test discount offers against a portion of store traffic before going site-wide. For brands building layered BFCM promotional structures with early access events, flash sales, and sitewide discounts, Rollouts is the most significant planning tool Shopify has shipped in 2026.
Inside Shopify Admin, merchants navigate to Discounts and find a new Rollouts tab. A Rollout groups a discount, a theme change, and a checkout update into one coordinated launch event with a scheduled go-live time. For A/B testing, brands specify what percentage of traffic sees the promotional price versus the standard price. Shopify tracks conversion for both groups, giving merchants data to decide whether to expand the discount to all traffic or adjust the offer before BFCM. This eliminates the manual risk of launching a discount that conflicts with a half-deployed theme change at midnight on Black Friday.
Shopify's Shop app maintains a session for verified users across devices. When a verified Shop user arrives at your store, the app recognizes them before any checkout action. Their saved payment methods and shipping addresses are queued for one-tap checkout. Cart contents carry over automatically when they switch devices. The abandoned checkout recovery flow activates for verified users who leave without purchasing. Merchants do not need to configure or enable anything beyond having Shop Pay active. Shopify also shipped automatic policy generation on October 8, letting stores auto-generate and maintain return, privacy, and refund policies that update as store settings change. Purchase Order analytics landed on October 6, adding reporting on costs, shipments, and receiving inside Shopify Analytics. And on October 1, Shopify Canvas launched as a generative AI-powered design surface, which we covered in detail here.
No. Shop Pre-Verification activates automatically for all Shopify stores with Shop Pay enabled. Verified Shop users will see the improved checkout experience and cart synchronization immediately without any merchant action.
Discount Rollouts is available on Basic plans and above. It launched on October 2, 2026, and is accessible through the Discounts section of Shopify Admin under a new Rollouts tab.
When a verified Shop user adds items to cart on one device, Shopify maintains those cart contents across sessions. When the same user opens your store on a different device, their cart appears intact. They do not need to log in or take any action on the second device for this sync to work.
Yes. Rollouts supports both automatic discounts and code-based discounts. Either type can be scheduled, A/B tested, and coordinated with theme or checkout changes inside the same Rollout launch event.
